Through their stewardship, the hostel was strengthened not only as an institution of learning but also as a pillar of stability, opportunity, and moral guidance within the wider community.


This institutional tribute formally records their invaluable contributions, ensuring that their vision, dedication, and lifelong service are preserved for future generations. Their lives stand as enduring reminders that true institutional excellence is built through integrity, foresight, and an unwavering commitment to education, service, and collective progress.

The Aga Khan Hostel, Botad, pays heartfelt tribute to Mr. Sadruddin Chhaganbhai Jiwani (Vichhiyawala)—fondly remembered as Sadrubhai—a towering personality whose life was defined by leadership, service, and unwavering commitment to education.

A man of dignity, discipline, and commanding presence, Mr. Jiwani was widely respected for both his personal integrity and professional success. He was financially prosperous through his involvement in the ship-breaking industry and a large iron business, yet his true legacy lies in how he used his resources, influence, and vision for the betterment of society.

Service to The Aga Khan Hostel, Botad Mr. Jiwani served as President of The Aga Khan Hostel, Botad, from 1980 to 1998, a period that proved transformational for the institution. An alumnus deeply devoted to educational advancement, he worked tirelessly for the academic progress, financial strength, and infrastructural development of the hostel.


During his presidency:

-Additional adjoining land was acquired to support long-term growth.

-New buildings were constructed to meet the evolving needs of students.

-The kitchen and dining hall were developed and strengthened.

-Spaces were earmarked for future construction, ensuring sustainable expansion. Essential infrastructure was systematically planned to secure the boarding’s future.

Landmark Contributions

Several enduring milestones stand as testimony to his visionary leadership: ·

Silver Jubilee Building (1982): A significant addition that strengthened residential and academic facilities.

Shia Imami Ismaili Girls’ Hostel (1990): Guided by a deep commitment to the education of girls, Mr. Jiwani Played a key role in land acquisition, planning, and development—significantly advancing female education.

Computer Training and Resource Center (1991): A pioneering step that introduced early digital literacy, access to modern educational resources, and skills that enhanced vocational and career readiness.


Strengthening Through Leadership and Influence To make the hostel financially strong, Mr. Jiwani used his personal reputation and extensive network to raise substantial funds. He shared close associations with prominent leaders of the time, including:


-Shri Chimanbhai Patel, then Chief Minister of Gujarat

· Shri Sanatbhai (Santabhai) Mehta, Finance Minister

· Shri Manoharsinhji Jadeja, Maharaja of Rajkot and MLA

· Shri Chhabiladas (Chhabildas) Mehta, State PWD Minister

· Shri Jaswant Mehta, and several other influential figures


These relationships played a vital role in strengthening the institution’s standing and sustainability.


Life Abroad, Bond Unbroken In later years, Mr. Jiwani migrated to the United States for business growth and professional advancement; despite living in America, he provided active guidance and support to the Aga Khan Hostel for Botad for many years.

Dr. Chandarani occupies a place of deep respect in the history of the hostel—not only as a former President but as someone whose personal journey was profoundly intertwined with the institution. He resided and studied at The Aga Khan Hostel, Botad, from 1961 to 1964, an experience that shaped his enduring commitment to education, discipline, and community service.


A Life Dedicated to Healing and Education After completing his early education, Dr. Chandarani pursued advanced medical studies and emerged as a specialist doctor. He established and successfully operated his own private hospital in Botad, earning widespread respect for his professional excellence and humane approach to healthcare. Despite his demanding medical practice, he remained deeply committed to serving hostel students and the wider community, providing over three decades of free medical services to residents of The Aga Khan Hostel.


Presidency at The Aga Khan Hostel, Botad Dr. Chandarani served as President from 10 June 2000 to 26 January 2012, a period marked by transformative leadership, administrative strength, and deep compassion for student welfare. His presidency fostered an environment that emphasized academic achievement, personal development, and strong community values. Under his guidance, the hostel evolved not only as a place of residence but as a nurturing space for holistic growth.
