NATIONAL READ A BOOK DAY

In a world increasingly driven by screens and digital distractions, The Aga Khan Hostel, Botad, paused to honor the timeless joy and power of reading by celebrating National Read a Book Day. Although the day is officially observed on September 6th each year, our hostel marked the occasion on September 7th, 2025, providing students with a meaningful opportunity to reconnect with books and the world of literature.

This event was more than a calendar observance — it was a thoughtful initiative to foster mindful reading and literary appreciation among our hostel students.

The initiative also served as a reminder that books continue to be a powerful tool for shaping the minds and values of future generations. The students showed genuine enthusiasm throughout the session, and many appreciated this special event as an additional opportunity alongside the regular reading sessions already held, expressing interest in more such activities throughout the year.

Students from various grades gathered in the hostel library, transforming it into a vibrant hub of quiet curiosity and exploration. The atmosphere was serene yet full of energy, as each student chose a book of personal interest — ranging from fiction and biographies to science and history. The emphasis of the day was not on how much one read, but on immersing oneself in the act of reading — discovering new ideas, perspectives, and stories.

Reading continues to be a cornerstone of education at our hostel, supporting not only academic advancement but also holistic development. Books have a unique ability to broaden minds, nurture empathy, and build a strong foundation for lifelong learning. By creating a space for focused reading, we aimed to further strengthen students’ regular reading habits and encourage sustained attention, thoughtful engagement, and deeper interaction with written texts.
